Here's an excerpt from our winter edition.... Special People of Lake Anna: Lake Anna veterinarian, Dr. Daniel Slovis ....

Our subject this issue is Dr. Daniel Slovis, the 44-year-old owner of Lake Anna Veterinary Hospital opened in 2011. Slovis resides in nearby Montpelier with his wife, Kristine and son, Gilbert.

We caught up with him recently and asked him about his Lake Anna business.

How did you decide to become a veterinarian?
My entire life we have had animals in our family — These animals included rabbits, cats and horses. I started riding horses when I was seven and have always been involved in horses and that was my original passion. I initially was set on being an equine veterinarian but after my fourth year in veterinary school I developed a real passion for small animal medicine. I did however start in equine medicine but over time it was in my best interest and quality of life to make a change to small animal medicine instead. I have been practicing veterinary medicine for 18 years and 14 of those years has been in small animal medicine

Please detail your educational background prior to becoming a vet?
I started in a college in New Jersey called Monmouth College, after one year of living in Jersey I opted to transfer to University of Kentucky and continued my education in animal science with emphasis in equine studies.
