Lake Anna Life & Times Summer 20 1 8 16 Marine 2 ADayInTheLifeOf... AseriesdocumentingthosethataremakingadifferenceatLakeAnna by Richard Binns L LARG is the Lake Anna Rescue Group that was formed last fall to enhance response to lake-related emergencies. Since I attend the LARG meetings and write for Lake Anna Life, I thought it was only fitting that I get a first hand look at what really happens on the lake through the eyes of law enforce- ment. So, on Saturday June 30th , I had the pleasure of accompanying two Spotsylvania Deputy’s on their pa- trol boat “Marine 2” . Prior to leaving the dock, the crew took the boat through its daily safety inspection and operational checks before I boarded near the sailboats at Vito’s (Lake AnnaYacht Club). Marine 2 is a 20’ center console runabout powered by a 150 hp Yamaha outboard with a top speed of nearly 50 mph.The boat gives the deputies the ability to track and stop everything from personal water- craft to pontoons, fishing boats to runabouts. Spotsylvania Marine units patrol Lake Anna to enforce boating safety. These units are responsible for DUI Enforcement, boating laws of Virgin- ia, and assisting stranded citizens on the lake. The boat operates mainly on the weekends and holidays often with three crew members. This boat responds to all boat crashes, shore incidents, and patrols all marinas, SpecialPeopleOfLakeAnnaSeries Above - Gene Newman at his home near Bearcastle.
