Lake Anna Life & Times Spring 20 1 8 10 around the lake WHAT’S NEW? Brewfest Founder Describes How The Event Began One of the annual events LKAers have grown fond of over the past four years is the Lake Anna Brewfest held each spring. Scheduled for May 12 this year Brewfest is a production of Travel Lake Anna, a 503c(3) non- profit with a mission to promote the Lake Anna area and it’s businesses as well as raise money for the Cystic Fi- brosis Foundation and the Friends of Lake Anna State Park. Travel Lake Anna founding board members include Chris and Laura Denkers and Greg and Dana Isaac. The group also hosts Wine By The Lake in September. Denkers is mostly the face of the Brewfest, and while he has other business interests around the lake (Coyote Hole Ciderworks and part owner of Sunset Properties, Lake Anna), he is a brewer at heart with over 10 years of experience. We asked the 34-year-old how he de- cided to produce Brewfest. “We conceived the Lake Anna Brew- fest in the fall of 2013 when we were thinking of ways to bring more peo- ple to the Lake Anna area. As busi- ness owners, we are always think- ing of ways to bring people to Lake Anna who have never been before to support both the lake, it’s local busi- nesses and raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. As the craft beer industry in Virginia was growing very rapidly, we couldn’t think of a better way to bring thousands of people to Lake Anna than with a beer festival. ” The event was originally held at the proposed Cutalong development property but has been held at Lake Anna State Park for the past two years. That change was something Denkers says he was looking forward to since the beginning. “We originally wanted to have the Brewfest at the Lake Anna State Park but for the first two years were unable to get permission. When Dan Quesen- berry took over as Park Manager, we were allowed to make the switch in 2016, which has been amazing. We al- ways envisioned having our festivals directly on the water of Lake Anna where people could enjoy the lake and it’s beauty. The move has been fantastic and everyone at the state park has been great with all dealings for both of our events that take place at the park. We couldn’t ask for a bet- ter location on the lake. ” The event has evolved over the years to include an enjoyable collec- tion of breweries and more recently cideries, plus a bunch of interesting GUTTERS DECKS 5" & 6" Gutters Leaf Guards Siding Replacement Windows Roofing & Repairs Rehab Decks Deck Enclosures “No job is too big or too small for us!” - Timmy Hein There’s Only One name To remember - Timmy Hein Call us at 540.894.9341 for a free estimate.
